About Us

What Is Manani?
Manani is a tree free stationery brand that creates journals, notebooks, and art books made from one hundred percent upcycled cotton textile waste. Every sheet is handmade by artisans in India using traditional paper making techniques. No trees are cut and no forests are touched. Our books are crafted in small batches, not mass-produced. We work with a small supply chain, so every product is made with intention, care, and respect for the people who create it. Manani books are designed for daily writing, planning, drawing, and reflection. They are made to last and made to be used.

What Does Manani Mean?
Manani is a name rooted in Sanskrit that means respect, honor, and regard. These values shape everything the brand stands for. Respect for the planet through tree free materials. Honor for artisans who keep handmade traditions alive. Regard for slow, ethical, and thoughtful creation. The name was discovered in a quiet, personal moment. While sitting in her apartment, founder Jyoti was searching for a name that felt true to her values. The word came together naturally from ma, meaning mother, and nani, meaning grandmother. In that moment, Manani felt less like something created and more like something remembered.

Why and Who?
Manani was founded by Jyoti, a social entrepreneur. During her MBA, she led a social entrepreneurship club and worked closely on projects centered around people and small businesses. Her direction became clearer during a trip to India, where she met artisans, watched them make paper by hand, and listened to their stories. Their dedication, honesty, and concern for the future of their craft stayed with her. She learned that these traditions are slowly disappearing as production becomes faster and more commercial. At the same time, the handmade process she witnessed preserves forests and avoids the environmental impact of traditional paper production. In that moment, it became clear that Manani had to stand for both the climate and the craft. A way to keep these skills alive while creating thoughtful products that respect Mother Earth
